どうやら常に左右違う色の
靴下を履いているらしい彼ですが、
今回はカフェ・キツネの美しい世界について
詩的な言葉で綴っています。
今度カフェラテをオーダーする時には、
彼に偶然出くわすかもしれませんね。

beautiful world of Cafe Kitsune
in another poetic installment from the
man who seems to only wear odd socks.
Perhaps you’ll bump into him

blog 2: Café Kitsuné

はじめに//
フランスのクリエイティブディレクター、
ジルダ・ロレアック(元ダフトパンクのマネージャー)と
日本の建築家/デザイナーの
クロキマサヤが力を合わせた時、
ウルトラヒップなファッション/音楽レーベルである
メゾンキツネが生まれた

まだキツネのカフェサイドについては
あまり知られていないかもしれない
しかし、メゾンキツネにひとたび足を踏み入れると、
きっとすぐに感じるだろう…
フランス人特有のセンスの良さと
日本人の洗練されたプレゼンス
それらが結びいた
その結果
東京のコーヒー好きにとって
人生は悪くないものになるだろう

つぎつぎと、はっと驚く要素が現れる
まずは、とても美しい日本の黒松に迎えられ
千鳥状に並んだ飛び石をワルツすると
竹格子の小道に迷い込む
キツネによってカスタマイズされた、美しい格子戸を引き
床や天井やカウンターの意匠に感嘆する
それはとてもオーセンティックであり、魅力的である
しばらくゆっくりとあたりを見渡してみよう
できるだけたくさんの部分に目を留めて
お客さんは感心していて
僕はインスパイアされる
ただこうやってこの空間に入る経験だけで
僕は満ち足りた気分になる

日本初のスレイヤーマシンにであう
やった！！
250万円以上もするこのマシン
とても綺麗にメンテナンスされている
キツネのバリスタは、
表参道コーヒーの國友さんの元で
トレーニングを受けている
響さんに会う
コーヒーをオーダーしてから、
僕は彼の動きを見ていた
こんなに自然に、
そしてエレガントにコーヒーを淹れる様をみたのは
初めてだ
口数は少なく、
でも効果的な一言だけ簡潔に言う彼
僕が二度目に訪れたときに、僕のこと、
そして僕が以前オーダーしたコーヒーを覚えていた
僕が以前聞いたのは
あなたにコーヒーを淹れるまえに
彼はあなたがどんな人か、観察し
どんなムードかみきわめ
それからコーヒーを淹れる
今のあなたにぴったりのコーヒーを
彼ならあり得ることだと思う

それは毎週のことで、もう宗教に近いと思うのだけど
僕の妻はうちのサイドボードに花をしつらえる
彼女はいつも僕にその花のことを話してくれる
そして、毎週、規則的に
カフェキツネのアイランド状の
ディスプレイの上にある盆栽を入れ替える
彼らはいつも僕にその盆栽について話してくれる
僕がはじめに訪れたとき、彼女は３０歳の美しい盆栽だった
信じられないくらいに綺麗なピンクと
白の小さな花をつけていた
僕は二度も聞いた
だって、彼女が本物だと信じられなかったから
今週は何が僕を待ってくれているだろう？
わくわくするような懐かしさと興奮が僕の中を通りぬける
　

さいごに//
フランスの、とある橋と結婚した
オーストラリア人女性のことを知っているだろうか？
場所に恋をするのは、
僕たちの国民性のひとつなのかもしれない
カフェキツネ…　僕の愛しい人…
　

translator notes:

日本とカフェをこよなく愛しているという想いが
伝わってきました。
カフェキツネは日本人の私から見ても、
日本の良さがギュッと凝縮されたお店です。
小さな小さな日本庭園のような入り口、
そして盆栽。
その中でコーヒーを飲むのは、ちょっと不思議な気分。
この場所は日本の素晴らしさを
日本の若者にも知ってもらう機会を
つくったのではないでしょうか。
ぜひ足を運んで、肌で感じ取ってもらいたいです。
オーストラリア人であるヴォーンが、
日本人の私たちにブログを通して日本の良さ、
そしてカフェの素敵さを再発見させてくれたと思います！
これからのヴォーンのブログも、とても楽しみです。

first thought//
when French creative director (formally of daft punk) Gildas Loaëc
combined forces with Japanese architect/designer Masaya Kuroki
the result was
the ultra-hip fashion/music label Maison Kitsuné
you probably have yet to hear of Kitsuné on the cafe front though
but when you walk in, you feel it…
that distinctive French flair
married with
that subtle Japanese presence
and now the result is
that life is no longer frustrating for the coffee lover in Tokyo

the element of surprise here
one after another
welcomed by the most stunning Japanese black pine!
waltz the checkerboard-shaped stones!
wonder along the bamboo lining!
wistfully slide the koshido doors!
with customized Kitsunés!
marvel at the ceiling, floor, and counter!
it’s authentic and engaging
look around for a moment
catch as many eyes as you can
the customers are impressed
and i’m inspired
just the walk in is enough to satisfy

meet Japan’s first ever slayer machine here
hip hip hooray!
it’s valued at over 2.5 million yen
and it’s well looked after
Kitsuné’s baristas are trained by Omotesando Koffee’s Kunitomo-San
meet Hibiki-San,
after i’ve ordered, i watch how he carries himself
i’ve never seen coffee making so natural and elegant
a man who speaks rarely but effectively
who on only my second visit remembered me and my order
i’ve heard that before he makes your coffee
he tries to see who you are
and what mood you’re in
and tries to make a cup of coffee
perfectly… for… you
i wouldn’t put it past him

it’s a weekly thing, almost religiously
that my wife will have flowers at home on the sideboard
she often talks to me about the flowers
and it’s a weekly thing, religiously
that Café Kitsuné will change their in-house bonsai on their island display
they often talk to me about the bonsai
when I first went there, she was a 30-year old beauty
with the most unbelievable pink and white buds blooming
i asked twice
cause I couldn’t believe she was real
what will be waiting for me this week
a tingle of nostalgia and excitement pass through me

did you hear about that Australian who married a bridge in France
it’s part of our national character to fall deeply in love with places
Cafe Kitsuné…my darling….
